Novelist Fasts for Bhopal Victims

Indra Sinha just began a week-long fast in support of victims of the Bhopal chemical disaster who began a hunger strike themselves in Delhi on June 12th. Sinha's novel Animal's People, which was shortlisted for last year's Booker Prize, is based on the 1984 Bhopal disaster when a gas leak at the Union Carbide plant released 40 tons of methyl isocyanate over the city. Sinha and his fellow hunger strikers are calling for the Indian government to force Dow Chemical, which now owns the site, to clean it up.
