Melbourne Named a City of Literature

As reported in the Herald Sun, the United Nations has just appointed Melbourne as a City of Literature. The list of criteria to become a City of Literature can be found here and includes such things as publishing houses, literary readings and festivals, and translation efforts. As far as I can tell, the only other City of Literature is Edinburgh.

Yep, definitely just Edinburgh before Melbourne. It's done a lot for that city by way of arts projects so hopefully the 'Paris of the Southern Hemisphere' will similarly benefit.
