Rushdie Wins Legal Battle

As I mentioned in a prior post, On Her Majesty's Service by Ron Evans (originally scheduled for publication on August 4th) contained some rather unflattering statements about Salman Rushdie. Rushdie fought back against the disparagement and hired a lawyer to defend his reputation. As reported in The Guardian, Salman Rushdie's lawyer announced that Ron Evans, the author of On Her Majesty's Service, has "accepted that much of the story published in the Mail on Sunday [excerpted from the forthcoming book] was false. ... [Evans] was a police driver making out he was an armed special protection officer." Stephens also says that "the authors have admitted that there were falsehoods in the original manuscript and have made amendments accordingly." A revised version of the book should be ready for release next week.
