Attempted Assassination of Publisher of Controversial Novel

Late Friday night, the north London home/office of Martin Rynia, publisher of the independent UK press Gibson Square, was firebombed in an apparent terrorist attack. Gibson Square is the UK publisher of Sherry Jones’s controversial novel The Jewel of Medina about one of the prophet Muhammad’s wives. As reported by teh Times, Police had advance warning of the attack, so there were no injuries. The Jewel of Medina is the novel that was dropped by Random House due to concerns that the book would lead to violence.

I thought Random House was being a bit paranoid to cancel the publication, but it appears that they were right after all. How terrible.
