There’s interesting commentary by Eileen Battersby at the Irish Times about Aravind Adiga’s “surprise victory” of winning the 2008 Booker Prize for The White Tiger. Battersby notes that Adiga’s win “left the literary establishment gasping, perhaps even bewildered.” Battersby calls Adiga’s win “a triumph for youth” but believes The White Tiger “appears crude and opportunistic” next to other contenders for the Prize.
In other caustic commentary, the Literary Saloon is "mighty stunned" that Adiga won the Prize and believes that "no matter what: this is not a good choice."
