Philadelphia Closes Libraries

As reported in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia is facing a budget crisis of "incredible proportions" and is taking drastic steps, including the closing of 11 of the 54 branch libraries that comprise the Free Library of Philadelphia. In a related story, one patron stated: "Why do they have to close this library? ... Who's going to help me with my homework? I'm doomed!"

That is so sad. A friend of mine who lives in Alabama has to pay an annual fee of $10 to use the library. I would be willing to do that.
