One Way to Make Money as a Bookseller

As reported by the News & Observer, a former bookseller at Raleigh's Quail Ridge Books & Music was "arrested over the weekend and charged with embezzling $348,975 from the popular independent bookstore." Anna Susan Kosak, 43, was employed at the store from 1998 to 2001 and again from 2004 until September. Kosak is charged with taking the money over several years, so the theft went undetected.
Nancy Olsen, the bookstore owner, speculates that Kosak may have stolen the money to pay for gastric bypass surgery. Olsen commented: "We thought we were watching our every dollar. I guess we weren't."
