The Year of Chabon

Michael Chabon's The Yiddish Policemen's Union just won the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writer's Nebula Award for best novel. The winners in other categories are listed here. I generally don't read sci-fi books or follow the sci-fi awards, but I'm following them this year since The Yiddish Policemen's Union, a book I've read and enjoyed, seems to be nominated for all of them. Isn't it more of an alternate history than a sci-fi or fantasy book?
