New Independent Bookstore in Dallas Area

Legacy Books opens tomorrow (Oct. 25) in Plano, Texas just outside of Dallas. Early reports estimate that approximately 100,000 books will be stocked in this 24,000-sq. ft., two-floor space. In addition to books, there will be a café and patio, a demonstration kitchen (for cookbook author events), a wi-fi bar, cooking classes, and jazz brunches. Supposedly, the store will host at least three events per week. The store's beautiful website is already live.

In an interview with Shelf Awareness, managing partner Teri Tanner commented, "In my 20-something years of retail experience, when you take your eye off of what your specialty is and get too far away from your core business, you almost always tend to see companies struggle a little bit." Based on this philosophy, Legacy Books is already starting out on the wrong foot (cooking classes?), but I'm hoping Tanner's philosophy doesn't hold true in this case. We could use another Powell's, and I'm excited this one is starting in Texas.
