Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award

The winner of the first Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award was recently announced. Former high school English teacher Bill Loehfelm took home the prize for Fresh Kills, a noir mystery about lower-middle-class life in Staten Island, home to the famous garbage dump Fresh Kills. Loehfelm wins a $25,000 publishing contract with Penguin, which will publish the novel in late summer.

I found your blog through Library Thing (we have many books in common). Your post caught my eye because I own a book called "Fresh Kills-a Mystery" by Carolyn Wheat published in 1995, same setting. Interesting coincidence?
