Books Saved from Flood Waters

The Des Moines Register reports on the community's heroic effort to save library books from flood waters. Books were passed hand to hand down a long line of volunteers on the steps of the Main Library at the University of Iowa on the banks of the flooding Iowa River. Many of the saved books "are out of print, books dating back to the 1800s or older."

Wow! What incredible dedication on the part of those volunteers.

It's like The Sixteen Pleasures by Robert Hellenga -- except in Des Moines instead of Florence. :)

Astute comparison. It may be the only comparison possible between Des Moines and Florence!
