Scientific Book Auction
Today Christie's auction house in New York City will be auctioning a single-owner scientific book collection containing over 300 volumes spaning six centuries by authors including Nicolaus Copernicus, Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin, Karl Marx, Sir Isaac Newton, and Johannes Kepler. The collection, which is expected to bring in over $6 million total, contains the only known copy of the first phone book and Copernicus' On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres (printed in 1543). The Copernicus volume is expected to fetch the highest price--between $900,000 and $1.2 million.
