Phelps Grabs $1.6 Million in Book Deal

Michael Phelps, winner of 8 gold medals in Beijing last month, has agreed to write a memoir "reveal[ing] the secrets of his success, taking us behind the scenes of his approach to training, competition and winning." According to the New York Times, the book "will focus on the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and the eight gold medals Mr. Phelps won there. He will also discuss his personal life, his upbringing by a single mother and his diagnosis of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder." Built to Succeed is scheduled to be published by Free Press, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, in December.

It's unconfirmed, though widely reported, that Phelps received an advance of $1.6 million for the book.
