2008 National Book Award Finalists

The 2008 National Book Award finalists in Fiction are:

  • Aleksandar Hemon's The Lazarus Project (Riverhead)
  • Rachel Kushner's Telex from Cuba (Scribner)
  • Peter Matthiessen's Shadow Country (Modern Library)
  • Marilynne Robinson's Home (Farrar, Straus & Giroux)
  • Salvatore Scibona's The End (Graywolf Press)
I've only read Home (see my review here), but this looks like a good list. This list was chosen by the fiction judges from 271 books submitted by publishers. The winner will be announced on November 19th. For the finalists in the other categories (Nonfiction, Poetry, Young People's Literature), go here.

I haven't read any of those books, but Home is in my TBR pile.

I have not read any of them either, but I might buy Home. I am not sure yet, though. I loved Gilead and have read in a couple of reviews recently that Home is not quite as wonderful. My expectations would be set very high and I am probably afraid of being disappointed.

Anna,

I liked Home quite a bit more than Gilead, so you might have a similar experience.
