Economic Crisis Affecting Publishers/Writers

As expected, the current economic crisis is not good for publishers or writers (is it good for anyone?). To kick off the holiday season, Random House’s Doubleday division just announced 16 layoffs covering a variety of positions, including publicity and editorial positions.

Over at GalleyCat, Michelle Goodman, author of My So-Called Freelance Life: How to Survive and Thrive as a Creative Professional for Hire, gives advice about surviving writing layoffs, beginning with this depressing tip: “Sign up for unemployment benefits right away [because] they can take a few weeks to kick in.”

I bet it's affecting readers as well....I'm happy to pay full ride for new books but they are expensive. I'd be willing to bet that Half-Price Books' revenues increase in the coming months.

Current financial crisis is not good for any of us – publishers and readers alike.
How many of us, however, are ready to analyze the reasons of it and ask a question of why it’s happening? Why the whole world is going through the same crisis at the same time?
Michael Laitman analyses the reasons of the world wide crisis and offers the only appropriates solution to it here: http://www.laitman.com/2008/10/the-remedy-for-the-global-crisis/
