British author Rachel Johnson just won this year’s Bad Sex in Fiction prize for her novel Shire Hell. According to one of the judges, the offending passages describe a woman in the midst of a “mounting, Wagnerian crescendo” wondering whether “the Spodders are, as requested, attending the meeting about slug clearance. … Cats and moths also make metaphorical appearances.”
As reported in USA Today, Johnson is taking an upbeat view of this dubious honor: “I always wanted to win a literary award.”
