Gift Idea #7: Indiespensable subscription (starting at $40)
Purpose: The perfect gift for booklovers who are also book collectors
Indiespensable is Powell’s subscription book club that delivers a new volume approximately every 6 weeks. Each volume contains beautiful, special editions that have been thoughtfully selected by the folks at Powell’s and other interesting tidbits (e.g., a CD of indie music or an excerpt from an upcoming book). I’ve been an Indiespensable subscriber since Volume 2, and I’ve been very happy with each of the book selections so far. Purchase a single volume (Volume 7) for your bookish giftee for only $40 (that includes shipping), or splurge on three or six volumes.
Volumes 1 through 6 each featured a full-length novel (or two) with a couple small goodies thrown in. The December volume (Volume 7) is unique in that it includes four “favorite literary journals,” including The Believer, The Paris Review, Open City, and Tin House. The volume will also include “two very special mystery items to enhance your reading pleasure.” Order now for pre-Christmas delivery.
Note: If you’re ordering only a single volume, select the option “ongoing (until I cancel),” and then cancel after the volume ships.
