The NYT and LA Times Hate the New Rushdie Novel

See here for Mitchiko Kakutani's review of The Enchantress of Florence at the New York Times: "[Enchantress] feels static and enervated, as though it had been mechanically assembled from a recipe that included lots of research."

See here for Amy Wilentz's review of The Enchantress of Florence at the L.A. Times: "Enchantress reads as if it's unedited and unfinished. It's more Rushdie's working notebook for a novel than it is a premeditated work of finished fiction."

The Enchantress has also received some ridiculously good press (as noted in a prior post). Based on the mixed reactions, this appears to be a book you either love or hate. My copy is arriving mid-June, and I'll post my review shortly thereafter.
